SAFL 2018 Season Preview

Our analysts break down what should be a very competitive 2018 season.

On Saturday September 8th the grass of field 5 in Eisenhower Park will be painted (hopefully) for another action packed season of SAFL Football. Last season left us with our appetites satisfied as the Browns and AK Santalli played a championship game for the ages. With the season only a few days away we decided to scan the league for some of the story lines we’ll be keeping an eye on during the first few weeks of the season, and where better to start with the commissioner’s team the Bandits.

Where will they land?

What will the always competitive Bandits roster look like this year? With some veterans going in different directions and personnel changes the league is left wondering what to expect. What we do know is that this will be a big year for the Bandits as they look to come back from a disappointing season just one year ago that saw a revolving door at the QB position.

The Bandits always have fire power on the receiver side with players like Harvey keeping defenses honest, if this group can stay on the same page we anticipate a disruption in the higher seed standings with the Bandits taking control.

Bottom Feeders No More?

In life only death, taxes and beating the Thunder and Elites are guaranteed, until now. Last year put these two teams clearly at the bottom of the league and rightfully so. With abysmal showings week after week many teams began seeing a game with these rag-tag bunches as bye weeks. Something tells us that these two teams may finally have something to say about that. Rumblings of some personnel additions, particularly at the QB position have us wondering where these teams will land. We think these groups have too much pride to continue to be walking mats and we anticipate an emergence from the bottom 4th of our power rankings.

The Battle of The Titans

Last year’s championship game had gone down as an instant classic between two of the most dominant teams this league has seen. The Browns found a way to do what no team, including them, had done during the season and defeated AK to secure another SAFL championship. We are excited to see what changes these two have made to close the gap between one another and increase the gap between themselves and the rest of our league.

Looking forward to another season. Good luck everyone!
