South Asian Football League (SAFL) – POWER RANKINGS Week 10

Published on

It is the last week of the regular season and boyyyyy has it been a roller coaster of a season. Some wins, some losses, some ties, some tears, some laughter, some cries. Ups and Down and lefts and rights a lot has gone down in these last few months. Hopefully everyone can take something away from this season as teams and as individuals. Let’s get to the rankings….

AK

W – L – T

8-1-0

Welp they made it. AK has been sitting on top of the Power Rankings for most of the season but now they are sitting atop of the standings too. The battle between the Savages and AK was epic. It was a back and forth not on offensive but on Defense. Everyone always talks about how good that offense is but what’s really going to carry them far this year is that suffocating man defense. AK has really established themselves as one of the best overall defenses in the league giving up the least amount of points in the season. They’ve prided themselves all season on having a majority of guys go both ways, not an easy thing to do just ask the Gators or Cobra Kai. They got the personal to do it and they push each other to go harder on every play. Look for AK to come storming into the playoffs….

Savages

W – L – T

7-1-1

The Savages for the first time all season finally dropped out of the #1 spot in the standings. We applaud them for their efforts against AK and as mentioned before the defensive performance by the Savages was extraordinary. It was the first time all season (when Sim’s was present) that AK didn’t put up more than 30 points in a game. That really is saying something. Someone had to lose that game but the effort that the Savages put forth gives us the belief that if these 2 behemoths see each other again it could go either way. On a side note, we did see Hashim playing QB and are wondering if a swtich has been made or was Anwar nursing an injury? All season long there has been chatter about the temperature change effecting Anwar…is it starting to take shape? We are anxious to see who starts this game…

Gators

W – L – T

6-3-0

We can’t say too much about this past week’s game because of the disqualification but the Gators did climb up the rankings 1 spot. Although it was a forfeit victory there were a lot of moral victories to be had. Gators looked fired up and ready to play the Browns. They came out strong but were tethering on the edge. They’ve been playing that way all season long and it works 94% of the time but as the season draws near and the weather starting to change expect more injuries to occur and guys needing more time to rest between downs. Gators are up right now but how much longer can it last?

Browns

W – L – T

6-3-0

The Browns had a rough last 2 weeks. We are 100% sure they didn’t expect the season to go this way especially after starting off so hot. They still are in the Top 3 in the standings but dropped 1 spot in the Power Rankings. We remember back when the Browns lost to the Savages and there seemed to be some tension in the group. Shu was able to take back control and steer the ship in the right direction for the rest of the season but last week it seemed like the fever broke again and this time it was from their sideline. The Browns always carry a deep roster and along with that carry a large fan base that follows them. We don’t want to go into detail but the game stopped because of fan interference and the Browns took a the L. Now is the time for the Browns to regroup and get back on track. If any team can do it its the Browns. They’ve always had excellent leadership and were always able to roll with the punches lets see if Shu and Sohel can right the ship right before the playoffs….

Underdogs

W – L – T

5-3-1

The Underdogs came away with a very lopsided victory this past week against Cobra. Cobra has definitely struggled all season long and the Dogs showed them no mercy. The Dogs are current;y the 5th seed and it’s parallel to their Power Rank. They are middle of the pact but don’t get us wrong they are a team that can go on a run right into the championship game. Waqas and Co. have the talent and the poise to be contenders this year. Their defense and offense are both playing well and the superstars are stepping up each week. The Dogs started off slow this season but they really picked it up and they need to keep the foot on the pedal and not lose any momentum going into the playoffs.

Elites

W – L – T

3-6-0

The Elites won an unbelievable game against the Thunder this past week. They have put themselves back in the conversation of being the 6th seed they just have to get past the Underdogs first. It’s going to be tough but we think they can pull off an upset. The Elites are starting to get hot at just the right time and we feel things will fall into place for them. Is it a tough road? You’re darn right it is BUT the Elites have never backed down from a challenge and we see that in how they place each week. Squirrels, Anas, Pete, Yusuf, and Kaiser have all the talent in world lets see who else will step up. They are 6th in our rankings this week lets see if they can get what actually matter the 6th seed..P.S. 6th seed plays Browns right now :\

Bandits

W – L – T

2-6-0

The Bandits are coming off another BYE week. Right as they were getting into rythem as a team they abrudtly couldn’t play this past week. Was it good? who knows but they did get some rest as a team and have 2 games this coming week. Bandits are one of the hotter teams going into this week but attendance is killing them. They have some great players in Obaid, Nabeel, Harvey , Ramin and Jason and hopefully for them they can escape the regular season with 4 wins and a 6th seed playoff berth. They are playing a hungry Cobra Kai team which the Bandits gave them their 1st victory and Cobra is smelling blood again. Their 2nd game is against a team they beat the Thunder. Bandits got the potential let’s see if they can execute…

Thunder

W – L – T

1-8-0

Man o Man….what a heartbreaking loss for the Thunder this past week. They had the lead with 1 min left and let it slip right through their fingers. We guess its been the common theme for them this year. They’ve had a lot of downs but they always have high spirits and thats something that this league needs sometimes. We respect what they do on the field but what always hurts them is the dropped ball, a category that they lead the league in. The Thunder can be a great team and if they do get hot at the right moment they can really give some teams a headache. Look for them to be a spoiler for their opponent this week…

Cobra Kai

W – L – T

1-8-0

Cobra has had the hardest out of any team this year. They were built in the absolute last minute and the league was lucky to find a captain like Fabio to take the reigns of this team. Yes, its been a struggle most of the season but there has been bright spots. Here’s another team that if they can get hot at the right moment and if the right guys show up they can be a spoiler for other teams. They play the Bandits this week a team that they beat earlier in the season and they are looking to spoil the Bandits hope to be the 6th seed. If Cobra can pull off this win and ride that momentum in the playoffs they have the potential to win the Wild Card Game and we know just how much that win in that game can motivate a team. Good Luck guys…..
