SAFL – A Few Thoughts…..

Hey SAFL community. It’s been a while…

Hey SAFL community. It’s been a while… but not long enough. I took the year off from the whole league but I saw the state of our content and I decided to make an unceremonious return to lighten your day and darken mine. Anyway, I’ve been brought up to speed on the league with some input from anonymous sources along with a quiet visit over the last few weeks and I have some thoughts for the thoughtless.

Elites and Thunder

Well look what we have here! 4 wins between the two teams and the season isn’t even over yet, they’re even competitive in some games! Sure, they’re still mediocre on their best day but from what I’ve gathered there’s been some material improvement. From upgrades at the QB positions to impact players on offense and defense both teams have finally begun a trend upward that looks somewhat sustainable. Perhaps with enough effort mixed another two to three years of wallowing in mediocrity as they stare at each other with befuddlement as three receivers run behind their defense for an uncontested score one of these squads will finish at .500. They probably feel like Louis and Clark when they saw the Pacific for the first time.

Renegades and Savages

Why on earth did this happen? You don’t come within a score of a championship appearance only to break the team up. Now both team sit at the complete bottom of the standings wondering what on earth they can do to get better. Here’s a tip, go back in time, smack the person whose idea it was to split and remain as a team. I’m not going to say I don’t like making fun of you all so it isn’t all bad news but seriously. If the Thunder and Elites are Louis and Clark it’s only because the Savages and Renegades are Sacagawea leading them to some semblance of success. Perhaps you should enlist Tyson, Harpal’s dog. He’s fast scary and outsmarts Harpal once a week. Speaking of outsmarting AK players……

Browns Woes

When I say Browns woes I don’t mean an over expensive sweater at Macys. I mean the champs look WEAK!  Sure, you can point to the proverbial switch they flip come playoff time but this year teams have stepped up. The Gators got fast, real fast. AK looks more determined than ever and Primetime looks legit. Maybe the Browns have had one too many brownies and slept on their laurels a bit. Their defense is literally hoping the wind pushes a pass away here and there and Shu’s arm has been looking like a Maggi noodle lately. Step it up boys, or else.

Top Dogs

I know what everyone thinks of AK. Fast, athletic, don’t show up when it matters most, kind of ugly. We get it. But, results are the ultimate indicator of character. Last year the Bandits (who we probably overrated) came within one score of beating AK. This year AK held the Bandits to one score. That’s adjustment.

Last year the Gators were stymied by the Bandits man defense as a lack of speed and depth doomed the at the time #3 seed. This year they adjusted, picked up Shady the run away rookie of the year cadidiate and added some much needed depth. They adjusted.

Finally, PrimeTime. It looked gloomy for the former Underdogs but some last minute recruiting pulled this team from the dirt and they currently boast the best defense in this league and just pulled off the major upset vs the Browns.

CobraKai

Last season the entire league practically went Ralph Macchio on this squad. This year they recruited like crazy, picked up a stellar QB who is quietly the most underrated player in this league (sorry Phil, everyone knows you can ball) and they’ve played some really good teams really well. They are a unit that has been hobbled by injury but all in all they represent the most improved team by far. Still, every 12-year-old kid goes through a growth spurt….
